Fried Corn

Finally back again with recipe post. Today’s recipe will be Fried Corn. Yes! You heard it right. The famous vegetable corn people usually steam or make it into a soup. But now we are going to fry it. Deep fried corn! This is actually one of traditional food in Indonesia called “bakwan jagung”, usually serve as a side dish or snack. It is suitable for everyone including vegan. Let’s start cooking!

Ingredients :

  • 3 Corns
  • 1 cup of all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1 tsp of salt & pepper
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 2 green onion
  • 5 celery
  • 4 cloves white garlics
  • 8 cloves red garlic
  • 1 cup of water

Prepare the ingredients :

  • Peel the corns and garlics. Don’t forget to wash them all with clean water.
  • Cut all the corns into pieces using sharp knife. Put it into a bowl.
  • Slice or mince all the red garlics, green onion, celery and set aside. For the white garlics use mixer to blend it.

How to make :

  • Prepare a big bowl and pour some all purpose flour mix it with rice flour.
  • Slowly add a little bit of water and start mixing. Add water bit by bit until you get nice consistency (like pancake batter), not too thick or runny.
  • Put all the ingredients corns, garlics, celery, green onion into the bowl.
  • Add some salt, pepper and sugar for flavor. Mix it well.
  • Prepare a fry pan and pour some cooking oil for deep fried.
  • Scoop some of the corn batter with ladle onto the frying pan. Deep fry it with medium heat until the color turns golden brown.
  • When the corn batter color is change into golden brown mean, it is cooked. Set it aside and let it dry enough from the excessive oil.
  • Put it and arrange it nicely on a plate. The deep fried corn is ready to served!

Eat it while still hot and warm. Serve it as a snack or side dish together with other menu. I eat it during lunch time with soy chicken soup, rice and hot tea. It taste sweet, savory and not too heavy. Children or adult, it is delicious!
